Please understand that a sunscreen by itself does not lead to dry or oily skin – it’s the base of the sunscreen that makes a difference. Since you have dry skin, you should use a sunscreen with in-built moisturizer and apply it when your face is damp so that the moisture is trapped inside – try this out and you will see immediate results.
As far as the right SPF goes, for Indian skin, SPF is enough for daily use and you may use as SPF 30 sunscreen if your exposure to sun is high or when you go on that beach or hill station vacation.
In case your dryness is still not under control, I suggest you consult a dermatologist who can identify the reasons and give you the right advice. The two common reasons for these conditions are:
1. Layers of dead skin collected over a period of time – this happens if you do not exfoliate your skin regularly. Exfoliation helps in removing excess dead layers and stimulating regeneration of fresh skin.
2. Genetic tendency called Atopy – this leads to sensitive skin which reacts too many different stimuli. It is important to understand your skin sensitivity and use the right products designed with sensitive skin in mind.
